acctAEI Challenge Course Advanced Facilitator Training

Advanced Facilitator TrainingThe “Advanced Facilitators Workshop” is designed to provide experienced facilitators, trainers, and course managers new, and more in depth, challenge course specific information in a unique and experiential environment. Although the training is open to all who are interested, the presentations, clinics, and information will assume a basic level of knowledge and experience in the Challenge Course industry.

This workshop will be held at Adventure Experiences’ Base Camp in Taylor Park, Colorado. This rustic and pristine setting is at the base of the Continental Divide, on the boundaries of the Gunnison National Forest. The camp sits at 10,000 feet above sea level and provides a variety of outdoor and adventure based learning and experiential opportunities. In addition to the environment, camp is home to an elaborate Challenge Course, 50’ climbing tower, meeting rooms, bunk houses, showers, sweat lodge, hot tub, dining hall and home-cooked meals.

Arrive a day early and receive your annual challenge course recertification. The eight hour workshop will be offered at a discounted rate of $100, and, of course, will take place on AEI’s state of the art facility. This price includes one night of additional lodging and three meals.

Day 1:
Get acquainted and network with the other training participants as you experience the finest in challenge course facilitation as our staff take you through our state of the art facility here at the Base Camp of the Rockies. Due to your extensive knowledge in the challenge course, this day will focus on new games and initatives and creative variations of existing elements.

Day 2:
AEI staff will take you through a full day of basic challenge course construction, repair and maintenance. Bring your hardest questions. Work with the tools of the trade, and learn where to acquire them. This seminar will be hands on as you assist in the construction of new challenge course elements.

Day 3. A.M.
Tim Kempfe, founder of Adventure Experiences, Inc. and president of the Association for Challenge Course Technology, will offer insight into the latest trends having an affect on the experiential work that so many of us are passionate about. You will have an opportunity to have all of your questions answered. After your ACCT questions have been answered, AEI staff will review the new Operations Standards. In an open forum discussion we will evaluate your individual course from a managers’ perspective, and give you directions for updating policies and procedures.
P.M.AEI staff will teach you advanced rescue techniques on the challenge course. Work with the latest technology, and learn valuable skills that will be applicable to many different aspects of operating your challenge course safely.

Day 4.
Choose between: The Adventure Race or Top Rope Rock Site Management. The Adventure Race is an orienteering course that includes team challenges at each compass bearing. This activity can be recreated at any facility and provide an exciting activity for groups of any size. Our Top Rope Rock Site Management presentation is designed for facilities that have an exsisting natural environment to develop a rock climbing and rappelling site. We will focus on anchor systems, equipment set up, and group management. Learn how to effectively and safely establish either of these experiential gems within your program.

Day 5 (Optional)
An optional raft/duckie trip will be scheduled for this morning ($75). Plan to stay and take in a little more of all that Colorado has to offer in the way of “once in a lifetime” recreational experiences. This price includes one night of additional lodging and three meals.

Evenings will be spent hiking, fly fishing, learning from others in focus groups, or resting in a place where your cellular phone will not work.
